What is Drumline?

Drumline is a marching band activity many people participate in, ranging from community groups or after school clubs, to N.F.L. (National Football League) marching bands, to international competitive championships. Drumlines are comprised of only marching drums, and consist of snare, bass, tenor, and cymbal players. Another name that the marching drum section is called is the battery section. Drumlines will typically perform at parades, events, competitions, marching band shows and more. They are a great way to make friends, build community, and bring entertainment while having fun.

You can choose to participate in drumline casually or professionally. Casual groups may include school or community groups which tend to focus more on fun. Professional groups may include groups from the D.C.I. (Drum Corps International) collective which focus more on commitment, art, competition, and the practice of discipline. The Drum Corps International collective assemble marching ensembles for student musicians and performers. Battery is only one section of many within the marching bands.
